Lenin Raghuvanshi

Lenin Raghuvanshi is a globally recognized human rights defender, peacebuilder, and social reformer dedicated to creating a just, democratic, and inclusive society. Born in Varanasi, India, he has devoted more than three decades to challenging caste discrimination, patriarchy, and communal violence, and to empowering Dalits, Adivasis, women, and other marginalized communities.

He is the co-founder of People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) and Senior Advisor of JanMitra Nyas (JMN), grassroots organizations that advance the rights of the most excluded through advocacy, community mobilization, and policy engagement. His pioneering efforts in addressing caste apartheid and masculinity-driven violence have been acknowledged nationally and internationally.

Dr. Raghuvanshi’s work is deeply inspired by the philosophies of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, and the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family). He identifies as a theological democrat and has consistently worked to transform hegemonic traditions into inclusive democratic practices.

Over the years, his efforts have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Gwangju Human Rights Award (2007, South Korea), the International Human Rights Award of the City of Weimar (2010, Germany), the Special Mentions Prize of Human Rights of The French Republic (2018), the Public Peace Prize (2018), and the Global Pluralism Award Honourable Mention (2021, Canada). He was also profiled as part of the European Union Visitor Program Wall of Fame.

Dr. Raghuvanshi has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his pathbreaking work on dismantling masculinity-driven militarism and building peace through grassroots democracy. He is also an Ashoka Fellow (2001), an Honorary Visiting Senior Fellow at IMPRI, and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of “Reformist Approaches to Human Rights” (UK).

Through his relentless commitment and vision, Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi continues to inspire global movements for human dignity, peace, and pluralism.
